Associate Director

Tell us why you chose JB Leitch?

I came to JB Leitch 8 months after qualifying. I knew they were a specialist law firm and I wanted to be part of that. Property law was an area that I was very interested in and JB Leitch was the perfect place to be for me.

What were your first impressions of the firm when you joined?

All very positive, we were smaller back then - I had previously worked in a firm with over 100 people. We have got to that point ourselves now!

I found everyone easy to get on with, especially with the open door policy for queries and support, everyone wants to learn from each other.

Talk about your time here, what challenges did you face and how were they overcome?

Within 5 years at this firm I have been able to develop work processes, have empowerment to make things my own and make important decisions.

It has been an organic growth and everything that dropped out of the usual processes came my way. As I took on these difficult complex issues and forfeiture cases my team has grown. We as a team have taken on more clients, more complex cases and instructions have grown.

What are your thoughts on the culture of JB Leitch?

We work really hard and everyone is focused. You can feel people all pulling in the same direction, it’s very technical and specialist.

Why do you value working in a specialist environment?

I want to be the best at what I do and not a generalist. I have more knowledge and experience in this firm and am better able to deal with issues confidently. Working with professional corporate clients is something I have always wanted to do.

What can you say about the support network in the firm?

There is good support, and having other specialists to work with is always useful. Having the business support side here such as IT Director, Operations Director and a Finance Director helps the legal teams get what they need and that really makes a difference. There are lots of opportunities to learn too, especially for the younger team members.

What is the best thing about working here?

The specialism and staying focused on this. Of course the social side is always good!

How are you planning to contribute to the future success of the firm?

Training others around me is important, sharing the knowledge to empower them and develop those up and coming within the firm.

I studied Law at Sheffield and completed LPC in Liverpool. I’ve been qualified for 6 years and with JB Leitch for 5 years.

Solicitor

Tell us why you chose JB Leitch?

I knew a mutual friend of someone who works here and they told me about the position and it went from there. I really wanted to get out of personal injury and make a move to specialising in property law and JB Leitch was the perfect choice.

What were your first impressions of the firm when you joined?

I was immediately impressed as Principal Solicitor Jonathan Leitch was heavily involved in the recruitment process.

When I started you could tell that everyone was highly motivated, there was never a question unanswered, everyone was super friendly and there was a good sense of morale.

Talk about your time here, what challenges did you face and how were they overcome?

The change in area of law has been the biggest challenge and also dealing with corporate clients. This area of law requires more in depth knowledge and I have to keep up to date at all times, every day is a learning experience.

What are your thoughts on the culture of JB Leitch?

Vibrant, always something going on in the teams or across the firm and everything is celebrated. There is a work hard, play hard ethos, which is a step up from other places I have worked.

What advantages are there to working in a specialist environment?

You can say with good reason that you are an expert, you become more familiar with the area of law and can fine tune your advice. It’s good to be proud to work for a firm that is a specialist and a market leader in this field. When I say I work for this firm I feel proud to say so.

What can you say about the support network in the firm?

It’s incredibly strong at all levels of the organisation - there is always someone to ask and a strong open door policy. Because of the in house training provision people really know what they are doing and this is unique compared to most firms.

What is the best thing about working here?

I can walk in every morning and no matter how stressful your day is there is always something that will lighten the load, this is a really tight community.

How are you planning to contribute to the future success of the firm?

To try and maintain the reputation and values that exist and contribute to the expansion and diversity we’re working towards. I want to take on more responsibility and support my line manager in dealing with issues across the team.

Everyone enjoys the work that they do and there is a positive can do attitude.
